was first produced three times in 1975-7
-
in the showcase Australian
Theatre, Sydney, by director David Freeman
-
in the Opera House Recording
Hall, Sydney, also by David Freeman .
-
in a Townsville Theatre by Mervyn
Smith, with Christian Brothers School.
This musical,
Childrens Crusade, was produced twice in
recent times
-
in concert in All Saints Church, Kingston London
UK 2006, by opera singer Glyn Paul
-
in the Independent Theatre, North Sydney, by
director Peter Cousens in January 2010.
All involved were children - actors, lighting,
sound and stage management.
It tells one of the most extraordinary Christian
pilgrimages to the Holy Land in all history.
It began with a 12 year old preacher, Stephen, and
spread like a forest fire across France until a
great cavalcade of 30,000 children followed him,
bound for Marseilles where they believed the
Mediterranean Sea would divide so they reach
Jerusalem, but where they were enticed onto ships to
be sold as slaves.
The powerful lyrics and soaring music reflect their
journey of vision, hope, dread and faith.
Three of these were recorded in a private studio by
the composer, Arnold Butcher, in 2005. The singers
were Wayne Cornell,
Shu-cheen Yu,
and Roger Howell.
